The YMCA World Urban Network and the World Alliance of YMCAs, as part of our recently approved Memorandum of Understanding, have been working on ways that our two organizations might assist one another in our shared goal of strengthening the YMCA Movement throughout the world. We have created our very first partnership initiative the “Leader to Leader” program designed to harness our human resources on a global scale.

WUN Training Event a Great Success

The results are in from 42 of the 58 participants attending the WUN Training Event in the Dominican Republic June 12th-17th. The overall safisfaction rate was a very respectable 8.5 out of 10. Some 20 of the participants rated their experience as either a 9 or 10. More importantly participants contracted with each other to take some collective action to help promote YMCA initiatives in education. One promising idea is to "create a digital media training conference for youth at the YMCA Mexico University. Gwenael Apollon summed it up by saying it was the best and most efficient program he had attended in the last 10 years. Our thanks to the staff and volunteers of the DR and NY YMCA for all their assistance. Our next conference is to be in Madrid, Spain July 29th-August 2nd,2012.

Ms. D'Emilio is a Sociologist and Anthropologist, from the University of Urbino,Italy.She is also responsible for regional programmes benifiting indigeneous and Afro-descendent peoples.

Bill sent an email of concern to one of our WUN members in Japan - Mr. Koji Hirota, General Secretary of the Tokyo YMCA. Mr. Hirota indicated that the Sendai YMCA in Japan has been badly affected and may be in need of help.

The 2010-2012 Strategic Plan development is being led by Bill Stewart and Peter Burns. The process has started and will include the Executive Committee and membership in the spring of this year. The plan will be discussed, amended, approved at the 2010 conference this summer.

September 1st will mark a night of celebration and messages for peace delivered by the 15 fantastic young leaders who have participated in this year Youth Peace Network. After three months of work, fun and learning these young people from Senegal,Korea,Egypt,Indonesia,Hong Kong,Sir Lanka,Rawanda,China,India,Zambia,Colombia,Argentia,Ukraine,Brazil,and Togo ready themselves for the trip home. We thank them for their leadership and contributions and wish them well and safe journeys.
