YMCA WUN > Strategies 2008 - 2010

The Strategic Plan of the WUN is reviewed annually by the Executive Committee and provided to the membership biennially for comment.  The Executive Committee may update the plan as required.  The plan is scheduled for redevelopment at the 2010  conference.

Strategic Initiative I

 Involve the membership in governance and operations.

Tactic # 1

To involve the membership in Committee membership including;  Conference, Governance/ Nominations, Management Performance, Membership/Communications, Training, and Relationships

Tactic # 2  

All Committees will have a membership of at least 3 plus Vice Chair

Tactic # 3

Develop a Governance initiative for the WUN to include Strategic Planning, Committee roles, responsibilities and evaluation

Tactic # 4

Develop and implement a member  association profile.

Tactic # 5

Conduct a World Urban Network evaluation by members, which assesses the relevance of the network governance and operations.

Strategic Initiative II

Organize and deliver activities to strengthen the capabilities of the participants in order to better lead their YMCAs

Tactic # 6

Conduct Conferences in each other year (i.e. 2010 etc.), which     serves a minimum of 50 delegates with a participant satisfaction of at least 8/10.

Tactic # 7

Conduct training in each other year (i.e. 2009 etc.) for senior staff of urban YMCAs, who have the potential for more responsibility, and smaller urban YMCA chief executives. The event will serve a minimum of 40 delegates with a participant satisfaction of at least 8/10

Tactic # 8

Building on the relationships established/enhanced at the 2008 conference the goal for 2010 will be 25 relationships (relationships will include, partnerships, joint projects, and/or working relationships between individual members).

Strategic Initiative III 

Develop a planning/evaluation process which involves members and prospective members.

Tactic # 9

Development of the Strategic Plan(s).

Tactic # 10

Secure, Strategic Plan, membership involvement and approval

Strategic Initiative IV 

Appoint and evaluate the Chief Executive Officer

Tactic #11         

Conduct the performance management evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer

Tactic # 12

Conduct a transparent process for the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer in 2010

Strategic Initiative V

Communicate to meet the needs of the membership.

Tactic #13

Provide conference and Training event information and registration at least 6 months prior to the event

Tactic #14

Create a Website, which will be operational by the first quarter of 2009 to include

  • Home Page
  • Bios and Photos of Executive and Officers
  • History
  • Membership Roster
  • Calender of upcoming events
  • Privacy Policy
  • Document and photo sharing tool which enables
  • members to view and download files and Photos
  • Contact us
  • Terms of use

Tactic #15

Collect information from members and others to be distributed through WUN Web Page/Blog to be updated at least monthly

 Newsletters to be distributed at least eight times a year.

Strategic Initiative VI

Develop and implement plans which recruit the YMCAs to be involved and the specific leadership required for leadership.

Tactic #16

 Identify and recruit the YMCAs within each region

Tactic # 17

 Identify and recruit the specific leadership for the WUN including;

·         Executive Committee

·         Officers

·         Committee Chairs and members

Strategic Initiative VII

 Develop a fiscal plan reflective of our aspirations while appreciating the differing realities all within a socially relevant and fiscally viable organization.

Review the membership and other fees charged.

Review the costs of operation of the World Urban Network
